Who is ..
Ulrich Martin
Ulrich Martin is a vintner and vine propagator from Gundheim, with over 40 years of experience in viticulture and vine propagation. In his vine nursery, he produces grapevines for vintners throughout Germany.
Early on, he recognized the cultural and viticultural value of historical grape varieties, many of which had almost fallen into oblivion. Together with vine researcher Andreas Jung, he began to preserve and recultivate these rare varieties – often from just individual, old vines.
With the project "Historical Grape Varieties," Ulrich Martin aims not only to preserve these almost lost treasures but also to make them accessible again for wine lovers – through cultivation, care, and his own wines made from historical grape varieties.
Who is ..
Andreas Jung
Andreas Jung is one of the world's leading vine researchers and ampelographers. With interdisciplinary knowledge from geobotany, ethnology, and climatology, he has dedicated himself to identifying rare, often forgotten grape varieties.
Through years of field research, he discovered numerous historical vines, many of which only existed as a single stock – thus saving them from extinction. His work not only provides scientific insights but also enriches practical viticulture with new, old diversity.
Those who wish to delve deeper will find fascinating insights in his podcast "Historical Grape Varieties".
