2025 Black Urban, Rosé

Even as a red wine, Schwarzurban cuts a fine figure. It's easy to see why the Stauffers in the Middle Ages valued Schwarzurban wines so highly. Now, our original Swabian variety can also be enjoyed as a dry rosé, not just on warm summer nights.

Geschichte zur Rebsorte

The Schwarz-Urban tells the story of a nearly forgotten treasure of wine tradition. A descendant of the Trollinger (Vernatsch), it originally comes from the Croatian wine-growing villages of Vrban and Vernaz. In the Middle Ages, the Hohenstaufen family brought it via Lombardy to Stuttgart, where it was cultivated alongside the Trollinger for a long time. While the Trollinger is still popular today, the equally valuable Schwarzurban was lost and forgotten about 200 years ago – until now. Enjoy the renaissance of a special, indigenous rarity with every sip!

Wine description

Can you already feel the elegance of Italy? Schwarzurban, originally from the Southern Alps, brings it with him.
Winemakers often underestimate how attractive a beautiful wine color can be. The Schwarzurban Rosé glows in the most delicate old rose, often referred to as a "blush." After a while, strawberry and peach emerge on the nose, which continue to resonate in the mouth, albeit in a very subtle form. Essentially, this rosé isn't a fruit bomb, but rather a palate pleaser. It's so velvety, silky, and smooth that it's no wonder so many Mediterranean dishes have found their ideal accompaniment here. If you want to make a splash, you can even try lobster...

Child of the Trollinger

Location: Survived on two vineyard terraces in Gundelsheim

History: The Schwarzurban (085), a descendant of the Trollinger, arrived in our region from the Hohenstaufen region of Lombardy in the Middle Ages. Its name reveals its deeper origins: "Urban" and "Vernatsch," a synonym for Trollinger, refer to the neighboring Croatian towns of "Vrban" and "Vernaz." These place names tell the story of peoples and their migrations, which ultimately lead back to the once famous wine region of Shirvan. The area lies in present-day Azerbaijan and northwestern Iran and is considered the birthplace of many rediscovered grape varieties.

Ulrich Martin

In addition to his nursery, Ulrich Martin cultivates his own vineyards, which he uses as mother orchards for vine production. The grapes from his mother orchards are vinified to the highest standards of craftsmanship. The result is wines from almost extinct original varieties, which are being vinified as single varietals for the first time in their millennia-old history. You now have the unique opportunity to purchase wines from this small, exclusive portfolio. Become an "archaeologist" of wine aromas.
