Diversity that shaped Europe

Six wines that show how diversity in European wine came into being.
**2024 White Traminer, White Wine**
Represented in many field blends – providing structure and character.
**2024 Bormeo Verd, White Wine**
Old Frankish origin – part of targeted vine imports.
**2024 Grünedel, White Wine**
Fresh and vibrant – an expression of adaptable vines.
**2025 Black-Blue Riesling, Rosé**
Combines freshness and structure – between worlds.
**2023 Blue Traminer, Red Wine**
Spicy and distinct – shaped by its origin.
**2023 Franc Pineau, Red Wine**
Powerful and deep – one of the great red grape varieties of the empire.

Anyone who experiences these wines together will recognize:
Six wines that are not randomly placed next to each other – but reveal a principle.
The idea that diversity is not planned, but evolves.

The **2024 White Traminer** was repeatedly present in many field blends.
It gave the wines structure and shaped their expression – regardless of where it was grown.

The **2024 Bormeo Verd** belongs to the Old Frankish varieties that were brought into the empire under Charlemagne.
It stands for targeted selection and the conscious transfer of quality.

The **2024 Grünedel** shows how flexibly these vines developed in different regions.
Freshness and vibrancy are an expression of this adaptability.

The **2025 Black-Blue Riesling** Rosé combines opposites.
Fruit and structure meet – a style that has developed from various influences.

The **2023 Blue Traminer** brings the spicy, distinctive side of these grape varieties to the glass.
Independent, but always part of a larger context.

The **2023 Franc Pineau** stands for depth and significance.
As a "Franconian Pinot," it was one of those varieties that sustainably shaped the quality of wines in the empire.

These grape varieties never stood alone.
They appeared repeatedly in different field blends – depending on the region, climate, and time.

Diversity did not arise from planning,
but through recurring interplay.

Charlemagne – How Diversity Came into Glass

Charlemagne was not just an emperor.
He actively changed wine in Europe.

After conquering the Avar March, he discovered grape varieties that impressed him so much he had them brought to his empire.

The best vines of their time were purposefully transferred to the West.

Many of these varieties still bear their historical origin in their names today:
Grünfränkisch (Bormeo Verd*, 050), Adelfränkisch (Grünedel*, 101) or Fränkischer Burgunder (Franc Pineau*, 938).

They became part of an existing system.

Back then, vineyards were not planted with single varieties.
The mixed-set was the rule for millennia.
Different grape varieties grew side by side –
as a natural safeguard against climate and yield fluctuations.

Charlemagne did not fundamentally change this system. He changed its composition.

The new vines from the Avar March were integrated into the existing mixed-sets. They appeared there repeatedly – in different regions and combinations.

Thus, no new method emerged, but a new quality within the existing one.

Diversity was not invented – it was purposefully developed further.

Charlemagne thus became the starting point of a movement that sustainably shaped European wine.

Many of the historical grape varieties that are being rediscovered today trace back to precisely this development.

Today, the opposite is often the case.
Viticulture focuses on a few well-known grape varieties. A large part of this diversity has been lost.

With historical grape varieties, it re-emerges.
And with every bottle, it is carried a step further.

What you experience here is not just wine –
but diversity returning to the glass.
